"Drac Is Back" mean anything to you?
Funksters just coming out of age during the late 70's. Funk Apex will recall
a track from the
"Slave" LP of 1978, called
"The Concept".
A Prime entry in the history of funk, the band,
"Slave" was formed by
Mark "Drac" Hicks, who started a group called
"Black Satin Soul". In the
early 70's, this group eventually turned into the group
"Slave". At one
time their boasting and impressive roster employed close to 20 musicians.
"Slave" charted an outstanding 20 singles on the R&B charts between 1977 and
1987.
Guitarist and Vocalist
Mark Hicks was an important part of this
legendary line up. One of the songs which launched
"Drac's" career, was the
single
"Slide" by Slave.
DRAC & THE NEW SLAVE, the accomplished soul, rhythm and
blues and hip hop group from the 70's and 80's, have collaborated with
accomplished jazz musician and Chairman of the National Juneteenth Holiday Campaign, Rev. Ron Myers and young rap artists NOVATONE, to create "JUNETEENTH FREE AT LAST".
